Fumiko Kasuga
Science and Administrative Officer
Fumiko Kasuga, Ph.D. is a Science and Administrative Officer at Global Secretariat Japan Hub. As of January, 2026, she is a Commissioner at Food Safety Commission of Japan, the national risk assessment organization for food safety. Fumiko was a researcher under the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan until 2016, then was Senior Fellow at the National Institute for Environmental Studies, before joining Nagasaki University as a Professor in April, 2023. Internationally she has worked with the World Health Organization, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and has been a member of the International Commission on Microbiological Specifications for Foods. Fumiko was Vice-President of Science Council of Japan in charge of international activities from 2011 to 2014, when she was engaged in establishing the Future Earth global secretariat. She was Global Hub Director – Japan from 2015 until 2025.
