第6回 Future Earth 日本サミットー2030年の先へ向けたアクションの創造へ
6th Future Earth Japan Summit: Co-creating Actions toward Beyond 2030
フューチャー・アース日本委員会は、2026年12月3日-4日の2日間にわたり、第6回 Future Earth 日本サミット「2030年の先へ向けたアクションの創造へ(Co-creating Actions towards Beyond 2030)」を開催します。
The Future Earth Japan Committee will host the 6th Future Earth Japan Summit, “Co-creating Actions toward Beyond 2030,” on December 3–4, 2026, at Keio University’s Mita Campus.
Purpose
With only three years remaining until 2030, the target year for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), there is an urgent need to accelerate action toward a sustainable future. At the same time, international discussions on the post-SDG agenda are set to begin next year.
How can academia and diverse stakeholders work together to create actions that can continue beyond 2030?
The Summit will explore “Beyond 2030” as an opportunity for transdisciplinary collaboration, bringing together perspectives from science, policy, and society. Drawing on the lessons and experience of Future Earth’s decade of activities, we will consider what is needed to foster lasting changes in behavior and society, and explore strategies for turning knowledge into action beyond 2030.

1. Asian perspectives on by and beyond SDGs (Moderator: Norichika Kanie, Professor, Keio University)
As the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development approaches its formal endpoint, global sustainability governance is entering a critical transition phase. The Pact for the Future and the anticipated 2027 UN SDG Summit signal a shift from implementation review toward forward-looking deliberation on how global development goals, governance mechanisms, and institutional architectures should evolve beyond 2030. With this background, Keio STAR’s “Beyond SDG Project” launched the Asian and ASEAN dialogue track, to seek possible common ground from the Asian/ASEAN region, in identifying key elements and mapping of issues for the post-2030 sustainability agenda. The project to date has aligned core research and dialogue activities across institutions, and initiated a broader multi-stakeholder and policymakers’ conversation on the future of development governance and deeper policy engagement, for by and beyond 2030. This session, with a special focus on; Science-Policy-Society interface; Conceptual framework; and Implementation, will bring together key partners from the project, in aim to foster further discussions between policy-makers, academia and other stakeholders.

2. Interlinkages between sustainability and digital transitions (Moderator: Kanako Morita, Professor, Keio University)
Balancing sustainability and green transitions with the digital transition has become a major challenge today. For example, while digitalization has the potential to enhance climate change mitigation efficiently, it will also lead to increased electricity consumption and have adverse effects on the earth system due to the increased water consumption. In this session, we will discuss how sustainability and the digital transition can be reconciled, focusing on smart cities in Japan, the Netherlands, and other countries.

3. Does food systems transformation enable everyone to continue eating well? – health and well-being through the lens of nutrition – (Moderator: Sakiko Kanbara, Professor, Kobe City College of Nursing)
While the transition toward sustainable food systems is advancing, a gap remains between ensuring food supply and enabling people to choose foods suited to their health, living conditions, cultures and values, meet their nutritional needs, and continue eating well. This session will present “Nutrition Dignity” as a working hypothesis and people-centered lens, building on food security as an indispensable foundation while considering nutrition, health, well-being, choice, cultural acceptability, and dignity. It also highlights the role of care provided by families, communities, and professionals in enabling people to continue eating well. Drawing on knowledge and experience from different countries concerning urbanization, climate change and disasters, population ageing, food cultures, affordability and diverse food system actors, the session will explore how food systems can enable everyone to continue eating with dignity, while considering challenges and trade-offs in advancing both human and planetary health from the perspectives of policy, real-world implementation and evaluation.

4. Planetary Health: Through the lenses of circulation, local-co-creation, and transdisciplinary research (Moderator: Taro Yamauchi, Professor, Hokkaido University)
Human health and well-being are deeply linked to ecosystem health. This session explores planetary health through three interconnected lenses: circulation, which considers how flows of water, nutrients, and other resources can be sustained or restored; local co-creation, which brings communities, researchers, and other partners together to address priorities grounded in local knowledge and cultural contexts; and transdisciplinary research, which connects academic disciplines and diverse forms of knowledge with collective action. The discussions will consider how everyday practices and locally grounded initiatives can support both human and ecological health, while respecting cultural diversity and drawing lessons from different regional experiences and approaches to change. Through presentations and dialogue across disciplines and sectors, the session will explore equity, participation, and connections between global goals and local priorities. It aims to identify shared challenges, practical approaches, and opportunities for collaboration, with particular attention to care and the relationships that sustain co-creation over time.
